Rhea

When Rhea first arrived at Dove Creek in July 2020, we knew there was something special about this beautiful Quarter Horse mare with the soulful eyes. Surrendered along with her 3 half-sisters from the Big Spring area, this now 8yo (2017) has come a long way. Her name is pronounced “ray-uh”, and like the warm rays of sunshine that dance across the Texas Plains, she brings light to everyone she meets. Rhea has never met a stranger, only friends she hasn’t made yet. The way she follows you around the pen, staying close as if sharing secrets, has endeared her to every staff member and volunteer at the rescue.

What makes Rhea truly shine is her athletic ability paired with her quick mind. In our training program, she’s proven herself to be able to do most anything. While she does have a manageable foot condition that will require ongoing monitoring, it hasn’t damped her spirit or ability to be ridden.

Rhea isn’t just a horse, she’s a personality. This is a mare who craves a job and thrives when given consistent work that challenges her mind and body. The perfect home for Rhea would include an experienced, confident rider who appreciates her personality rather than trying to dampen it. She could thrive in a family setting where she receives regular attention and exercise, or perhaps as a pony horse alongside an enthusiastic younger rider with the guidance needed to handle her energy. She’s a partner waiting for someone to recognize the diamond that we’ve had the privilege to polish during her time with us.

Ready to write the next chapter of Rhea’s story? She’s waiting to meet you, ears perked forward with curious anticipation of the adventures you’ll share!
