Daisy

Daisy is a breathtaking 13yo (2012) palomino mare whose expressive eyes reveal both her gentle spirit and desire for genuine connection. Rescued from the brink of a heartbreaking fate at a kill pen, Daisy’s journey embodies resilience and the extraordinary capacity of horses to heal and partner. For 5 years, a dedicated family worked patiently to help Daisy overcome her fear of humans. Through consistent care, especially from the husband who became her trusted human companion, Daisy began to blossom and reveal her true nature – kind, respectful, and remarkably forgiving. When medical circumstances eventually prevented him from continuing their work together, he and his family made the difficult decision to find Daisy a place where her rehabilitation could continue, knowing she deserved more than a retirement pasture.

Now at DCER, Daisy’s transformation continues to unfold beautifully. Her progress has been amazing – once hesitant around new people, she now accepts gentle affection from our staff and has reached a significant milestone by graduating to roaming with the herd and entering the training program. Our trainer, Eva, works with her daily on groundwork, and with each session, we witness her confidence growing and her natural intelligence emerging. The fear that once defined her interactions is gradually giving way to curiosity and trust.

Daisy would be an excellent companion for someone who wants to gain trust and make a close, lifelong connection!
