Ellie

Ellie is a 20yo (2006) mare who arrived at the Rescue in July 2025 as part of a seizure case involving 8 horses from Randall County that were ultimately awarded to our care. Upon arrival, Ellie was underweight and in significant physical and emotional distress. It is believed she had formed a strong bond with one of the two mares who tragically passed away prior to the execution of the seizure warrant, adding to her trauma.
Gaining Ellie’s trust required time, patience, and a consistent, gentle approach. As she began to feel safe, her true personality emerged, revealing a mare who is affectionate, intelligent, and quietly playful.

Through dedicated efforts, we were able to locate Ellie’s original breeder and learn more about her history. Ellie had been sold as a broodmare with the expectation that she would receive proper care. Unfortunately, that trust was misplaced. She was turned out with multiple stallions and subjected to overbreeding and neglect. As part of her rehabilitation, Ellie was gradually introduced to light groundwork. Her calm demeanor and willingness to connect made her a standout, and our trainer recognized her potential early on. When evaluated under saddle, Ellie exceeded expectations, demonstrating enthusiasm, responsiveness, and a clear enjoyment of having a purpose.

Ellie is now ready to find her forever home! We believe she would do best with an experienced horse owner who can provide consistent guidance and care. She has the potential to excel as a lesson horse or a partner for a confident youth rider.
With the right match, Ellie will continue to thrive and share the kindness and heart she has shown throughout her journey!
