Maya

Maya is a 17-year-old registered Quarter Horse mare (2008), known by her race name Brenda’s Dragon, out of Streakin’ Lover and Dragon Wings. She came to Dove Creek Equine Rescue in December 2022 after we were contacted by an Equine Investigator concerned about her welfare. After some time to settle in and integrate with the herd, Maya began receiving bodywork to address tightness in her hind end. She’s now part of our training program and is thriving under the care of our talented trainer, Eva. With proper nutrition, supplements, and consistent handling, she’s gaining strength, agility, and confidence. Maya is kind and easy to handle on the ground – she halters, leads, enjoys grooming, and stands well for the farrier.  We’re hopeful she’ll be ready for a riding home once our trainer gives the go-ahead. But if not, she will make someone or another horse a loving companion – one that will grab your heart and fall in love. Stay tuned for updates on Maya’s progress!
