Misty Sky is a 12yo Missouri Fox Trotter mare who arrived at Dove Creek on September 16, 2025, as an owner surrender. She was purchased based on videos and some less-than-honest information. At 75yo, her owner had clear needs and expectations for a horse, and while Misty met many of them, her energy and drive were just a bit too much. Even after seeking out some additional training support, Misty still didn’t feel like a safe riding partner. Her owner, incredibly selfless and caring, wasn’t concerned about the money lost. Her only priority was making sure Misty wouldn’t end up in the wrong hands. After many conversations, arrangements were made to transport Misty Sky 8 hours to DCER. After a long day of travel, we unloaded a beautiful, well-mannered, and gentle mare. Her owner, worn out from the drive, stayed overnight in her trailer quarters and was able to say a quiet goodbye to the horse she had come to love. With tears in her eyes, she drove away the next morning, heartbroken, but at peace, knowing Misty was in good hands. Misty Sky is now settling in at Dove Creek. She’ll spend some time in quarantine and then begin her evaluation in our training program.
