About Charlie Brown
In 2012, Charlie Brown was seized with 2 other horses from Randall County in one of the most severe abuse cases we’ve seen at Dove Creek. Charlie Brown and Charger survived, but sadly, the other gelding did not.
It was “touch and go” for several weeks for “CB” and Charger as staff and volunteers paid very close attention to them, hoping they had the strength to pull through such severe malnutrition. Slowly, and with a careful feeding regimen, they regained their weight, and Charlie Brown began to show signs of his unique personality.
What also showed up was a condition called “string halt,” where his back legs have a hitch in them when he walks, but at a trot or gallop, it isn’t evident. We learned he used to be a roping horse, which is easy to understand, observing his energy and athleticism. He is often seen playing around and being his mischievous self with his buddies in the herd.

Temperament & Training
He definitely feels “at home” in the sanctuary, where we decided to place him, given his uphill journey. He is a favorite in the Volunteer Program and has helped many folks learn about horses through his curious personality. As he ages, we notice he is quieter and a bit slower, but “CB” is loved by all.
