About Leon
Leon is a 24-year-old (2001) Appendix gelding. He came to the Rescue in November 2014 from Deaf Smith County, off the track, left abandoned, and starved, and is one of the most severe abuse and neglect cases we have ever received.
He pulled through and has become a favorite in the Volunteer program and the Led By Horses program, and has proven to be a great teacher for new people. Leon has been in our Sanctuary program for several years since we felt he needed time to heal his swollen ankles and regain his health.
He has healed and is a full-time resident here at Dove Creek – we are grateful he made it! His best friend is Marlena. Sponsor Leon at any amount monthly!

Temperament & Training
Leon will begin formal evaluation and groundwork once his quarantine period is complete. His early interactions show a curious nature, strong awareness, and willingness to connect with handlers. Updates on his progress, temperament rating, and rider suitability will be added as he moves through the program.
