About Marlena
Marlena – aka “Marley” – is a 23yo (2002) Registered Quarter Horse mare. Marlena came to Dove Creek with Frank Castillo, the previous ranch foreman, in 2013. She was his main working horse at that time and had been in the feed yard with Frank for many years as an all-around working cow horse as well as an amazing cutting horse. Laurie and Greg Kerley fell in love with her and bought her from Frank in 2015 so she is a resident at Dove Creek. “Marley” has been the main teaching horse in the Volunteer Program. She also is part of the Led By Horses (Equine Assisted Learning) program because of her gentle disposition on the ground. A big heart and compassionate spirit make Marlena a favorite here. Temperament & Training
Marlena will begin formal evaluation and groundwork once her quarantine period is complete. Her early interactions show a curious nature, strong awareness, and willingness to connect with handlers. Updates on her progress, temperament rating, and rider suitability will be added as he moves through the program.
