About Apple Annie
Apple Annie has already faced more challenges than any young horse should. She arrived in Texas from a reservation in North Dakota with frostbitten ears, was bred at only 2 years old, and struggled to regain her health after foaling. Over the past several months, concerned citizens reported seeing an emaciated horse from the highway, and after following every lead, our team was finally able to locate her and convince her owner to surrender her to DCER so she could get the help she desperately needed.
With very little handling experience and nearly no strength to spare, Apple Annie faced an unfamiliar and frightening process, but for 4 and a half hours in the summer heat, our team worked patiently alongside her, letting her move at her own pace. Throughout everything, she showed the gentlest disposition. We took breaks when Annie needed them, celebrated every small step, and never once considered giving up on her.

Temperament & Training
Today, Annie has settled in beautifully and is already showing encouraging improvements both physically and emotionally. Cases like hers remind us of the power of compassion, perseverance, and second chances, and why we do this work.
Apple Annie has a long road to recovery ahead and would greatly benefit from sponsorship and support as she continues to heal.
