About Rip
Rip came to the Rescue with a very unique challenge for us to address: the EHV-1 outbreak that had hit many horse owners throughout our county, leaving the surrounding areas on high alert. We were incredibly fortunate to have the facilities to completely isolate him from the herd while still maintaining constant care.
Rip and his previous owner, before coming to Canyon, were in a freak accident resulting in Rip breaking his withers, sending him down a long and difficult road to recovery. At the same time, his owner was beginning a new chapter of her own as she was starting college at WT. While Rip continued to heal, life understandably became more demanding. Anyone who has cared for an animal through rehabilitation knows the healing doesn’t end when the injury does, as it requires time, consistency, patience, and attention. Sometimes life changes in ways that make it impossible to give an animal everything they need, no matter how much you love them.
Temperament & Training
Recognizing that Rip deserved every opportunity to continue progressing, his owner made one of the most selfless decisions a horse can make. She chose to put Rip’s future ahead of her own wishes, trusting that he would receive the continued rehabilitation, training, and opportunities she could no longer provide. That decision speaks volumes about her character and her love for him.
We hope we have honored both Rip and his previous owner by giving him every chance to succeed. Fully recovered from his injury, Rip has exceeded our expectations! He has shown us that he is more than capable of enjoying a successful career under saddle, and his talent, willingness, and versatility leave the door open for countless possibilities. We are so proud of how far he has come, grateful to have been part of his journey, and excited to see the bright future that lies ahead for this remarkable horse!

Each adoption begins with connection and care.
All adopters must schedule two visits to work with Cayenne before adoption approval.
Submit an adoption application and allow 7 business days for processing.
Adoption fees are determined after evaluation and training assessment.
Note to a potential sponsor: Every horse needs several sponsors to fully fund their care, averaging $400/month at Dove Creek Equine Rescue. Monthly sponsorships from $10-$150/month are greatly appreciated!
